    What we’re looking for

     

    The Director of Collections position reports to the Chief Risk Officer. This role manages collection performance and will be the leader in driving enhanced collection strategies. These strategies may include, but are not limited to, sophisticated process management techniques and champion/challenger tests to manage the Collections Department as a unique effective business stream. This position will be responsible for collections product portfolio efficiency and performance and will determine and make strategic decisions to support positive business growth. Consistent collections policies and strategies will be created and executed in accordance with best practices and regulatory requirements. Efficient management of internal staff as well as the management of external collection resources/companies will be delivered through the use of technology, effective ongoing management and leadership, and aggressive metrics.

    The successful candidate will possess strong strategic thinking capabilities and will demonstrate strong analytical, fast thinking, influencing, and negotiations skills. The ability to work effectively with C-level and senior leadership through colleagues across all business units will allow this individual to be most effective. This individual will need to be nimble within an ever-changing environment of continuous demands and shifting priorities. Prior experience developing processes in a start-up environment is desirable.



     

    Responsibilities

    A day in the life…

     

    • Develop and execute a Collections strategy and tactical plans
    • Ensure consistency in Collections policies, strategies, systems, and reporting across each product portfolio
    • Establish champion challenger environment of thinking
    • Manage, evaluate, and consult on capacities and capabilities needed for Collections team and effective bonus and payment schemes to effectively motivate team members
    • Based on delivered analysis of performance trends and in coordination with the CRO and Risk Analysts, determine necessary changes to enhance Collections policies, strategies, and procedures
    • Manage performance of collections within set performance triggers
    • Provide the business with sound analytical advice on proposed collections processes for new products
    • Manage and ensure clear reconciliation between collection efficiency and risk coverages
    • Ensure full compliance with all collections laws and regulations
    • Analyze and make recommendations for IT application(s) business requirements for effective process systems support
    • Be accountable for collections results (roll rates, recovery, cash collected)
    • Analyze and ensure capacity planning, resulting in a detailed staffing and on-boarding plan (hiring, training and performance)
    • Create team member performance metrics that align to staffing plan (set staffing levels to optimize performance levels)
    • Set effective relationships with external collections companies
    • Determine and manage departmental budget within Plan
    • Identify risks to making Plan and develop mitigation plans
    • Provide ongoing status reports to senior leadership
    • Performs other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    You’ll own this if you have…

     

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Statistics, Mathematics, and/or Engineering
    • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in Collections management
    • Excellent knowledge of standard consumer and finance credit products
    • Excellent knowledge of collection techniques, systems, and strategies (out-of-the-box thinking)
    • Excellent knowledge of collections-related legal and regulatory compliance requirements
    • Proven ability to operate in a team environment and work in a matrix organizational
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point)
    • Knowledge/experience in the banking/financial services or telecom industry
    • Experience working with C-level, SVP, and VP level executives
    • Prior experience as a manager - mentoring and leading team members
    • Ability to work cross-functionally among numerous stakeholders
    • Proficiency in leading meetings and project timelines
    • Excellent time management and communication skills
    • Strong facilitation and presentation skills

     

     We would really like you to have...

    • Three (3) years of experience in consumer risk management within the banking industry
    • Master’s degree in Business, Statistics, Mathematics, and/or Engineering
    • Experience with process management tools
